Funds were collected during the past two years and containers were displayed in the school’s main office and during Matula’s family night events.
Eagle Management System LLC, a local family business, also donated funds to the project on behalf of the school.
Matula Principal Carol Leveillee presented the check Dec. 19 to Bob Boyce, president of the Southern Maryland Carousel Group, and to Burkey Boggs, vice president of the group.
The carousel group was established in 2004 and plans to construct an old-world-style carousel at Laurel Springs Park off Radio Station Road in La Plata.
The group plans to complete the carousel this year and will include a wood-carved dolphin on the carousel to recognize Matula for its donation.
