Charles County commissioners will hold a public hearing on the compensation commission's salary recommendations at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 at the county government building, 200 Baltimore St., La Plata.

Charles County government offices and the Tri-County Animal Shelter will be closed Jan. 18 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The county landfill, recycling center and composting facility in Waldorf and the Pisgah recycling center will not open. Curbside recycling services will not be affected.
