A tribute concert for TomWisner, heralded as the "bard of the bay," will be held at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at Calvert Marine Museum. The event will celebrate the release of "Follow the Water," a double CD which chronicles Wisner's experiences around Solomons Island.
Musicians Frank Schwartz, Teresa Whitaker, John Cronin and Mac Walter will perform in the concert. Since the 1960s, Wisner's original songs and stories have heightened awareness of issues pertaining to the health and beauty of the Chesapeake Bay. Now battling lung cancer, he describes what might be his final recording effort as an ensemble of stories to hear, tell and sing. "They are the songs and stories of the sailing oystermen, the sun-tanned, quiet breed of watermen whose lives are bound in the regional traditions to follow on the water," he said in a press release.
Tickets are $20. The museum is at 14150 Solomons Island Road, Solomons. Call 410-326-2042. Go to www.calvertmarinemuseum.com.
