Vernon Frederick Hardesty II, 69, of White Plains died Jan. 31, 2010, at his residence.
Born April 8, 1940, in La Plata, he was the son of the late Vernon F. Hardesty Sr. and the late Elizabeth Dove Burroughs Hardesty.
He was a 1959 graduate of Lackey High School, where he was captain of the championship basketball team. Following graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served from 1959 to 1963. He then joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #70 and worked his way up to journeyman lineman, retiring after 38 years.
He enjoyed wood carving, hunting, fishing and gardening.
He addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Ann Johnson; and his brother, Don Wayne Hardesty.
He was the husband of Janice Levin Hardesty; father of Susan L. Green of Lawrence, Kan., Sherri J. Bobik (Kenneth) of Waldorf, Shawna K. Norris (Mike) of Mechanicsville, Kevin V. Hardesty (Mary Beth) of Cortland, N.Y., and Jason L. Hardesty of Waldorf; and brother of Carol L. Hiers of Moyock, N.C. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Chapel in La Plata, where a funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. The Rev. Mark Roberson will officiate.
Interment will be private at a later date.
