Weikel is Entrepreneur of the Month

Friday, Feb. 5, 2010

Ken Weikel, owner/operator of two Chick-fil-A restaurants in Charles County, was named the county's Entrepreneur of the Month for February.

Weikel was given a proclamation signed by the county commissioners and a plaque commemorating the honor at a presentation during the commissioners' weekly meeting Tuesday.

"Ken Weikel exemplifies the best of the entrepreneurial spirit," said Charles County commissioners' President F. Wayne Cooper (D).

"He built a business through hard work and high standards, and he shares his success by giving back to the community in so many ways."

Throughout his 18-plus years in Waldorf, Weikel's Chick-fil-A restaurants have supported schools, churches, Charles County government, the town of La Plata and many nonprofit organizations with contributions of food and coupons to support their endeavors.

Additionally, Weikel has served on the board of directors for the United Way of Charles County, the board of directors and executive committee of the Charles County Chamber of Commerce and served as the chamber president in 2009.

He is a member at the First Baptist Church of Waldorf and has served there as a deacon and worship leader. He also chaired two building projects at the church.

George L. Robertson, the county's director of economic development, introduced Weikel noting his community service.

"At the recently successful diversity forum, it was Ken and Chick-fil-A that provided lunch for the over 200 participants," Robertson said.
