T.C. Martin Elementary School students file past the carousel piece as Bob Boyce looks on.

The program invites each Charles County school to raise funds to support the carving, painting and installation of their mascot on the Laurel Springs Carousel.
Boyce, president of the Southern Maryland Carousel group, said, ‘‘We spoke to all the children at T.C.Martin and answered many questions from the children. ... After all, it’s all about the children. They will benefit from the carousel.”
According to Boyce, the following schools are either raising or plan to raise funds for their mascots: T.C. Martin (tiger); Mary H. Matula Elementary School (dolphin); Mathew Henson Middle School (wolf); Piccowaxen Middle School (panther); and Walter J. Mitchell Elementary School (bulldog).
Schools interested in joining the program should call 301-392-9620 or e-mailsomdcarousel.com.
