On Sunday, Feb. 8, the congregation of Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church in Charlotte Hall, along with hundreds of churches throughout Maryland, turned out in red in support of "Dress Red Day" to highlight heart health awareness in the African-American community. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of black women in America. One out of every three black women will die from heart disease. This is three times the rate of breast cancer deaths, which is the second largest killer of women in the black community. Mt. Calvary's choirs (New Generation and Youth) were decked out in red as well as the pulpit ministers and even the men of the congregation, who wore red ties or red shirts.
