Charter school team wins engineering challenge

Sixth-grade students from the Chesapeake Public Charter School celebrate their win at the state hovercraft engineering competition.




 

The Chesapeake Public Charter School's sixth-graders were named state champions in a middle school hovercraft engineering challenge.

It was a clean sweep for CPCS, with the school's three teams placed first, second and third for the overall challenge. The challenge consisted of three categories — the written report, the oral report and the performance demonstration.

First place went to the Hovercrabs, which included Rand Duarte, Grace Mueller and Meghan Webster. Second place went to the Lightening Bolts, made up of Alexis Clarke, Shanice Cooper and Rachel Neville. And third place went to the Flying Squirrels, which included Rosie Click, Michael Collier and Kyle Collins)

Each team placed first in one of the competitive categories. First place on the written report went to the Hovercrabs. First place on the oral report went to the Flying Squirrels. The Lightening Bolts won first place in performance demonstration.

Overall scores from all three categories were computed to determine the winners.
