St. Leonard Elementary School in St. Leonard and Mutual Elementary School in Port Republic have been placed on heightened alert following notification of an attempted armed robbery in the southern area near Calvert Cliffs Drive and Route 4.
This morning the Webmaster for Calvert County public schools sent out an e-mail stating that school system personnel are consulting with law enforcement and will provide additional information as soon as it is made available.
According to Calvert County public schools spokesperson Gail Bennett during heightened alert, normal activity goes on in and outside of classrooms, staff members are just asked to be more aware of what's going on around them.
Initially St. Leonard Elementary was placed on partial lockdown, during which students are kept inside for optional and recreational activities like recess and are accompanied by a staff member when they have to go outside to switch classes.
