A man who told police last Monday that two men broke into his home and shot him has recanted his story.
According to a press release sent out Friday afternoon, detectives investigating the reported crime became suspicious when evidence did not match what the alleged victim had reported. The man, who lives on Great Reward Way in Huntingtown, admitted on Friday that he accidentally shot himself and made up the home invasion story to cover up the accident.
After the man reported the shooting on March 1, police searched for the suspects that the man had described as two black men wearing jeans. A Maryland State Police helicopter was brought into the search and schools in the area were locked down. The Calvert Investigative Team brought in canines for the search and nothing was ever found.
Lt. Stephen Jones of the CIT said Tuesday, "The investigation is ongoing. Charges will probably be forthcoming."
They are currently working with the State's Attorney's Office and his name will be released when and if charges are filed, he said.
