Pax River Silver Stars

The Pax River Silver Stars, a girls AAU basketball team, will hold tryouts from 6 to 8 p.m. (grades 6 to 11) March 14 and from 2 to 4 p.m. March 21 at the Margaret Brent Recreation Center.

Calvert mulch sale

The Calvert High School football and boys lacrosse teams will hold a mulch sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 20 at Calvert High. Free delivery in Calvert County on orders of 20 bags or more.

Flag football tourney

A 4-on-4 flag football tournament will be held March 28 in Brandywine. The tournament is open to players 16 and older and the fee is $150 per team. First place is $5,000. Call George Hall at 410-231-6110.

Blue Crabs to hold open tryout

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs will hold an open tryout for the 2010 roster at 9 a.m. April 10 (check-in at 8 a.m.) at Regency Furniture Stadium.

The cost of attending the tryout is $45 if participants preregister before April 2, and $55 after that date and if registering the day of the tryout. Checks must be made payable to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.

The open tryout will be overseen by Blue Crabs manager Butch Hobson.

The Blue Crabs will provide wood bats, balls and helmets for the tryout. Any participating catchers need to bring their own equipment.
