A Huntingtown home fire was investigated Tuesday and the fire, which was caused by improperly discarded ashes from a wood stove, was deemed accidental, according to Deputy State Fire Marshal Caryn Moreland's report.
The fire, discovered by an occupant, originated in the living room near the fireplace where ashes were discarded from a wood stove at the two-story Plum Point Road home. A smoke detector was present and operating.
The fire was contained to the living room of the first floor of the dwelling, causing $85,000 in damages and displacing the family. It took 30 firefighters from Huntingtown, North Beach, Prince Frederick and Dunkirk volunteer fire departments five minutes to control the fire.
