Evelyn L. Jacobs, 88, Prince Frederick

Evelyn L. Jacobs, 88, of Prince Frederick died March 6, 2010, at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick.

She was born June 13, 1921, in Tatum, S.C., to Samuel E. and Mary Jane Coates Caulder.

She was raised in Bennettsville, S.C., and graduated from Bennettsville High School.

She moved to New Jersey where she met and married Joseph M. Jacobs. They later lived in Bronx, N.Y., where she was a homemaker, raising two children. In 1955, she moved with her family to Silver Spring where she worked as a bakery salesclerk and decorator, and later worked at Prudential Bank and Computer Sciences Corporation at NASA as a keypunch operator, retiring as a computer operator.

She moved to Prince Frederick upon her retirement in 1987.

Her husband Joseph died Oct. 14, 1968.

She was a former member of the Sligo Creek Seventh Day Adventist Church in Tacoma Park. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed music, especially Elvis Presley, and also was fond of dancing and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; brothers, Sanford Caulder, Walter Courtney and Stanley Caulder; and a great-granddaughter, Sabrina Barony.

She is survived by a daughter, Geraldine J. Fowler and her husband, Ray, of Prince Frederick; son, John E. Jacobs and his life partner, Matt, of Holiday, Fla.; grandchildren, Mary Barony and her husband, Steve of Great Mills, Joseph N. Elliott and his wife, Sheila of Sunderland, Jeffrey M. Elliott, and Rebecca L. Bowen and her husband, Ronnie, all of Prince Frederick; as well as 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held March 11 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring with the Rev. Heath Wilson officiating. Pallbearers were Joseph N. Elliott, Jeffrey M. Elliott, James R. Elliott, Brian W. Barony, Ronald W. Bowen and Steven C. Sparks. John P. Barony Jr. was an honorary pallbearer.
