Walden, a private nonprofit behavioral health agency, was established to provide comprehensive substance abuse treatment and prevention services as well as general crisis intervention and counseling to residents of St. Mary's County. The agency is staffed by professionals, psychologists, social workers, counselors and addiction specialists committed to helping people resolve conflicts and problems associated with drug abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, adolescent adjustment, suicide and other mental health crisis situations.
Walden is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, and licensed by the State of Maryland's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and Department of Human Resources.
Walden also offers therapy to victims of domestic violence/sexual assault and their families. The Substance Abuse Treatment Program provides services for those in need of education and treatment, including assessments/screenings, individual and group sessions, dual diagnosis groups, DUI/DWI education and treatment, and adult and adolescent intensive outpatient services.
The Anchor Residential Facility is an adult substance abuse treatment center located in Charlotte Hall that offers detoxification, 28-day treatment and long-term care. The COMPASS (Care of Mothers Preparing and Achieving Sustained Sobriety) halfway house provides long-term care for mothers with young children and pregnant women in recovery from substance abuse.
