Genevieve Goerling, left, Jackie Mastny and Scott Tucker search for traces of Charles County's first courthouse at Moore's Lodge, one of the state's most important recent discoveries, which will be discussed at an upcoming symposium.

Researchers from across Maryland will describe recent discoveries and findings from some of the state's most important archaeological sites at a symposium 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 4 in the Historic St. Mary's City visitor center.

The symposium, sponsored by the Archaeological Society of Maryland, focuses on projects at St. Mary's City, the Zekiah Swamp in Charles County and the Eastern Shore.

Lunch will be available at St. Mary's College of Maryland.

Admission is $5 for ASM and HSMC members, $7 for nonmembers.

In recognition of both Maryland Archaeology Month and the state's 375th anniversary, the focus is on Maryland's first century of colonization.

Presenters include Julia A. King, Silas Hurry, Tim Riordan, Ruth Mitchell, Bruce Thompson and James G. Gibb.
