James "JB" Brown, former professional football player, now a minister, recently spoke at Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church in Charlotte Hall.

Former professional football player, James Brown of Rhema Christian Center, was the guest speaker at Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church March 21.

In an effort to offer a variety of services at its Charlotte Hall church, Mt. Calvary's pastor, the Rev. Sandra Greene, offers a service on the third Sunday of each month that is primarily full of gospel music and a strong message, Greene said in a press release.

"We want to focus solely on the music and the message," she said.

The services are aimed to help lift the worship experience of its members, according to the release.

The church invited the male chorus of Brooks United Methodist Church to lead the music portion of the service with traditional and contemporary gospel hymns.

Led by musician Lowell Tucker, the chorus had many in the congregation on their feet with hands lifted in praise.

Following the musical praise and worship, James Brown host of CBS' "Inside the NFL," delivered a powerful message on "Depth Before Height."

Brown said that in order to be successful in life and become good servant leaders a strong foundation must first be built.

The deeper the foundation in the world, the more success one will have in dealing with the storms that will arise in one's life.

Brown spoke to an audience of about 90 people, many from the church's surrounding communities.

After the service, Brown, who is a member of the Rhema Christian Center, signed autographs of his newly released book, "Role of a Lifetime: Reflections on Faith, Family, and Significant Living."

Mt. Calvary holds services at 10 a.m. Sunday and Bible study at 7 p.m. Thursdays.
