Business group welcomes members

Myra Hardesty, new owner of Studio M Salon, and Scott Sager of L&E Floor Co. have joined the Southern Maryland Business Network.

Hardesty has previous corporate experience as the head of education for Ratner Companies, a chain of salons, and will assist the staff with ongoing technical development of their skills. Studio M Salon (formerly Design Studio) is a full-service hair and nail salon in the Facchina Building in La Plata.

L&E Floor Co., which opened in 1990, is a family-owned and -operated business, and the owners have more than 30 years experience in Charles County, according to a press release from SMBN. The firm provides residential and commercial floor coverings, carpets, vinyl, hardwood floors, ceramic, laminate and more. Its office is in Waldorf.

SMBN also welcomes EXIT Landmark Realty to the group. partner and co-owner Jane Ratti, was the founder and first president of SMBN, and a member since the group’s inception more than five years ago.

The new office is off of Theodore Green Boulevard at 4461 Southern Business Park Drive in White Plains.

SMBN is an independent, nonprofit, self-directed organization. Members are dedicated to being a ‘‘virtual sales force” for other members of the group, by exchanging quality business referrals and developing new business relationships. The network is promoted through direct contact, chamber of commerce events, marketing materials, press releases, community calendar and a Web site. Meetings are held weekly from 8-9:30 a.m. Tuesdays at Southwinds Adult Active Community just off Billingsley Road on Southwinds Place.

Maiden Point joinscattle association

Maiden Point Farm of Newburg is a new member of the American Angus Association.

The American Angus Association, with more than 36,000 active adult and junior members, is the largest beef cattle registry association in the world, according to John Crouch, executive vice president of the national breed registry organization in a press release.

The association’s computerized records include detailed information on nearly 16 million registered Angus cows.

McKay promotedat Mona Electric

David F. McKay has been promoted to president of Mona Electric Group Inc.

He joined Mona in 1987 and has more than 30 years of industry experience, according to a company press release.

McKay joined the company as a project manager. In 2005, he was promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Under McKay’s leadership, the company has increased volume and market share, while adhering to the quality of service that Mona has been known for since 1966, according to the press release.

McKay is also the vice chairman of the board of directors at Mona and finds additional time to serve on the boards of numerous organizations, including the NECA Labor Management Committee, WBC Board of Governors and the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Trust Fund. He has been the chairman of the Electric Roundtable.

Silpada awardsHuber trip to Hawaii

Barbara Huber has earned an all-expense-paid vacation for two to Maui, Hawaii through her Silpada Designs Jewelry business.

Huber earned the trip by being in the top 3 percent of the 25,000-plus Silpada representatives nationwide and earned an upgrade to the trip by her outstanding accomplishments this past year that put her in the top of the company’s sales force, according to a company press release.

She has been an independent representative for the company for a little more than three and a half years and has also earned trips to Aruba, Nashville, Tenn. and Ponte Vedra, Fla., by consistently being at the top in sales and recruiting with her home business.

Huber runs her business while being an active member in the community and while also helping to run her husband, Jim’s, business, according to the release.

RE⁄MAX gives approval for commercial division in La Plata

At a recent RE⁄MAX Colonial Homes commercial and land roundtable meeting, Ron Mellott, broker, owner, Institute of Real Estate Management member and Certified Commercial Investment Member candidate, announced RE⁄MAX International’s approval of a commercial division in La Plata.

In addition to listing and sales, the primary focus will be on education, technology and specialized commercial training so that the branch may provide the world-class service that Southern Marylanders deserve, Mellott said in a press release.

RE⁄MAX recently expanded its marketing and technology support for commercial agents via its companywide Intranet, including message boards, downloads of presentation materials and property listings.

Lucas honoredby Allstate Insurance

Scot Lucas of La Plata has been recognized by Allstate Insurance Co. for high standards in customer satisfaction, customer retention and financial service sales.

Lucas has achieved the distinctive Allstate Regional Champion award which is Allstate’s symbol of outstanding achievement. By winning the award, Allstate recognizes Lucas’ performance and the award is a symbol of his dedication in assisting customers.
