Report on all candiates running for office

Friday, April 30, 2010

On Wednesday, April 14, The Calvert Recorder had an article covering the Solomons Island Tea Party and mentioned that political candidates gave speeches calling for various political agendas.

This article went on to feature Charles Lollar as the Republican running against Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-Md. 5th).

Unfortunately, your reporting was incomplete and did not cover any other candidate running for the 5th Congressional District seat.

Collins Bailey, also present at that Tea Party gathering, is running as a conservative Republican for the same seat and will face Mr. Lollar in the Republican primary.

As a primary source of local news, it should be incumbent upon you to do a complete job of reporting about all of the candidates, not to pick and choose only those you wish to highlight.

It is especially important in this election year that we the voters make the most informed decisions at the polls that we can, and this will not be possible if the newspaper is selective about the candidates on which it reports.

I have met and spoken with Mr. Bailey and am very impressed with his principles, values, and ideas for serving our community, so I am hoping to see an article featuring him in a future issue of your paper.

Please give equal time to all qualified candidates in the future so that the citizens of this county and this district can make the most informed and well-educated choices about our political leaders.

The future of our country rests on the choices we make — let's make sure they are educated choices.
