Each year Mount Calvary United Methodist Church in Charlotte Hall offers a blessing to motorcyclists.
For five years, Mount Calvary has worshipped with several local motorcycle clubs such as the Joy Riders, Too Deep, Enigma and friends and family to pray for riders' protection and safety as they travel the open road.
On April 26, more than 60 motorcyclists arrived to receive a special blessing after attending the morning worship service.
The Rev. Sandra Greene, Mount Calvary's pastor, offered a sermon on having one's spirit refueled to receive the best that God has to give.
Special pins were presented to each biker to wear on their jackets as a reminder that Jesus loves and Jesus saves. After the presentation of pins, Greene and other ministers offered a prayer of thanksgiving, praise and protection and then anointed the bikers and their motorcycles.
To conclude the service, certificates of appreciation were offered to the clubs for their participation in the ceremony and everyone was invited into the fellowship hall for a meal.
Greene said that until 2007 she was a biker, too, and this being her first Blessing of the Bikes, she was excited and impressed.
"To see all those motorcycles arrive at Mount Calvary was truly a sight to behold," she said in a church press release.
