Five debut playwrights will be featured May 21 and 22 at the College of Southern Maryland’s Independent Playwriting Festival. In three days, the playwrights — Ellynne Brice Davis, Missy Fallabel, Joanne McDonald, Tasnim McWilliams and Lois Stephenson — will have auditions, cast performers and present their 10-minute plays, which will be showcased at 3 p.m. May 22 in the Leonardtown campus’ auditorium. Professional playwright Allyson Currin will assist the directors. Tickets are $5. Call 301-934-7828.
‘Sentimental Journey’
Singer Jennifer Cooper and pianist Michael Santana will perform “Sentimental Journey,” an evening of favorites from the World War II era, at 5 p.m. May 22 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1200 Charles St., La Plata. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. Call 240-237-8318.
Port Tobacco Players The La Plata theater troupe’s production of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” a comedic music with songs by Stephen Sondheim, will continue through May 29. The play is directed by Brooke L. Howells. Co-producers are Keith Linville and Amy Wathen Cooksey. Jim Watson is the music director. Friday and Saturday performances will be held at 8 p.m.; Sunday shows will be held at 3 p.m. Tickets are $17, $14 for senior citizens, students and military. Port Tobacco Players Theater is at 508 E.
