Ollie Grant Berry Jr., 83, Park Hall

Ollie Grant Berry Jr., 83, of Park Hall died May 22, 2011, at St. Mary's Hospital.

Born June 10, 1927, in Rockbridge Baths, Va., he was the son of the late Ollie G. Berry Sr. and Mamie Beatrice (Morris) Berry.

He served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years as a cook onboard numerous ships. He traveled all over the country. After his retirement from the Navy in 1967, he worked as a civil servant at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, until his retirement in 1983. He attended many ship reunions.

He enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. He loved to hunt and fish and maintain a flower garden. He lived a wonderful life. He loved everyone, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved life and went in peace.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Berry; his stepchildren, Harriett Mathew of Maryland, Louise Clapper of Idaho, Helen Aud of Florida, Addie M. Wood of Maryland and Robert V. Coffman of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Henry Berry.

The family received friends and prayers were said May 24 at First Friendship United Methodist Church in Ridge. A funeral service will be held today, May 25, at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Brinsfield Funeral Home in Leonardtown.
