Peace and quiet

I would like to reply to Bill Deavers’ comment about what were the people of Hughesville thinking [Maryland Independent, May 14]. I would like to tell you exactly what I was thinking when I joined the fight to stop the baseball stadium from being built.

I didn’t buy property in a rural area so that the septic system for a 4,500-seat stadium could be built behind my house.

I don’t believe in publicly financed stadiums. That is money better spent on education and other more important issues.

At night I want to relax and enjoy the sounds of nature, not the noise of cars roaring by on the Hughesville bypass, concert noise by bands blasting their instruments, fireworks sounding off scaring my animals, stadium lights glowing for a mile and pollution from cars idling in traffic.

I don’t know about you, but all that is not my idea of qualityof life.

Jo Ellen Trossbach, Hughesville
