A plea of sex abuse of a minor by Timothy Scott Williams, 35, of Huntingtown was accepted by Judge Warren Krug at the Calvert County Courthouse on May 27, and a second count of child sex abuse for continuing course of conduct was dropped in exchange for the plea.
Assistant State’s Attorney Kathryn Marsh said the second count was given to Williams because more than three sexual conduct incidents occurred for more than a 90-day period, but the state agreed to dismiss the second charge in exchange for William’s guilty plea.
A call to the Child Protection Services initiated the investigation in November 2007, and Williams told police then that he ‘‘may have accidently touched” the victim in the breast and buttock area while wrestling, charging documents state. Williams did not fully disclose the allegations of numerous incidents of sexual conduct that occurred from September 2005 through December 2005, by the then 13-year-old victim, according to charging documents.
Based on Williams’ testimony and demeanor during interviews with police, he was asked to take a polygraph and he agreed, according to police reports. The polygraph was administered by Sgt. Gregory Hollinger, and the polygraph showed ‘‘significant and consistent signs of deception,” according to charging documents.
After learning of the polygraph results, Williams told the investigators about more sexual contact incidents and wrote a 10-page statement of his knowledge and answered several questions regarding the alleged sexual conduct, and he was charged a week later with child sex abuse counts, police reports state.
Williams, represented by attorney Melissa Miller, acknowledged to the courts he understood the plea and could be sentenced to a maximum of 25 years for his plea.
His sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 29 at 10 a.m.
