Tickled pink with support for event

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

Sisters at Heart Breast Cancer Survivors Group would like to thank the Simon Property Group for giving us the opportunity to use the community wall at St. Charles Towne Center to promote breast cancer awareness.

Our display was up mid-April through mid-May. We especially want to thank the College of Southern Maryland for partnering with us and Karen Smith Hupp, CSM community relations director, for sharing her time and talents with the wall design.

We are grateful for the support of the Richard R. Clark Senior Center, Civista Medical Center, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, Lone Star Café in Indian Head and the Southern Maryland Women's League for the continued support of breast cancer awareness in Charles County.

With the help of local merchants and organizations, we were able to Paint the Mall Pink on May 1, distributing 250 bags filled with goods and coupons. Seeing shoppers walk through the mall carrying pink bags was an awesome sight. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone for their generous donations.

The event provided an opportunity for breast cancer survivors to meet and talk with other survivors and to inform the public of two support groups in the county. Founded in 2002, the Pink Ladies of Southern Maryland meets in the evening and Sisters at Heart, established in 2007, meets during the day at the Clark center. Information is available at www.charlescountybc.blogspot.com.

Sisters at Heart Fund is a component fund of the Community Foundation of Charles County.
