May Madness tourney got plenty of support

Friday, June 19, 2009

On May 2, Tap's Community Brotherhood hosted its Third Annual May Madness 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament at St. Mary's College of Maryland. TCB would like to thank the players, volunteers, referees, and sponsors for making this year's tournament a success. Their support is essential and enables TCB to host the May Madness Tournament and support other youth organizations within our community.

Congratulations to all the winners who survived the grueling day of double elimination play and won their divisions. For the middle school division, The Dunking Crew took home the first-place prize. In the junior varsity and varsity divisions, The Braves and St. Mary's Finest were the champions. For the third year in a row, in the men adults division, The Procrastinators proved to be too much for the competition. In the co-ed adults division, Triple Threat + Kelly defeated last year's champions for the victory.

New this year, other youth nonprofits and organizations within St. Mary's County manned information booths. TCB would like to thank the St. Mary's County Health Department, Boys and Girls Club, and Tri-County Warriors Amateur Athletic Union Boys Basketball Club for participating at this year's event.

Also, thank you to Project Possible students from Great Mills High School, whom TCB has been working with throughout this year.

The May Madness Tournament would not be possible without the support of countless donations from friends and family as well as sponsorships with local businesses and organizations. Sponsors for the May Madness Tournament include Sanofi Aventis, St. Mary's College of Maryland, Kepferle Mercantile, Booz Allen Hamilton, Travel Leaders, J.F. Taylor Inc., Maximum Health and Fitness, Pin Pow, Comcast Spotlight, Barefoot Graphics and Stimuli Design.

A special thank you to Robert Lockard of EnaloImagery, who donated his services as this year's photographer. The photos are available for purchase through Rob's Web site, enaloimagery.smugmug.com. Proceeds will be donated directly to TCB.

TCB has two more events lined up for 2009. On Aug. 1, TCB will host its second back to school picnic at Nicolet Park. Free school supplies will be provided to children in attendance along with food, games and access to the splash park. Then, on Oct. 2, TCB will be holding another wine tasting and auction at the Blue Wind Gourmet. Don't miss out on these great opportunities to connect with the community.

Proceeds from the May Madness Tournament and other TCB events are donated to local and national nonprofit organizations that impact community youth through sports, arts, leadership, mentor or counseling programs.
