Bryant Parker performs martial arts moves with the help of his sin sai, Chuck Nye. Parker and his students will perform at the 14th Annual African-American Family Community Day.

As the community celebrates the 100th birthday of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and Juneteenth celebrations around the country, the Calvert County Branch of the NAACP is also celebrating the 14th African-American Family Community Day at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum in St. Leonard on Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Joni Jones, curator for the Banneker Douglass Museum in Annapolis, will be at the African-American Family Community Day to collect pictures and history on African American families in Calvert County.

Sterlen Barr, known as "No Puff Daddy," will be performing at this event. Barr is on staff at the Health Promotion Council of Southeastern, Pa., Inc. (HPC) and the Tobacco-free Environment and Action Coalition for Health (TEACH). As a health education motivational rap artist, he educates, inspires, motivates and encourages youth to stay healthy and tobacco-free. He delivers a high-energy presentation using facts, humor, personal experience, audience participation and live performance. Barr has produced two public service announcements to stop the sale to and prevent the addiction of tobacco by kids. "No Puff Daddy" has previously appeared at several schools in Calvert County including Northern Middle School. One of the students from Northern Middle School said in a press release, "I loved your show that you put on for us on April 30. I loved how you had people come up to do things and the way the people danced. It was awesome. I had so much fun singing and dancing and you sang wonderfully. Thank you so much for coming to our school and sharing your story with us."

One of the highlights of the day will be the performance by Bryant Parker and students from the Elite Martial Arts Academy. Attendees will see tae kwon do which is the ancient Korean martial arts form of kicking and punching, in which people practice methods of unarmed fighting for physical fitness and self-defense.
