Janice Walthour of the Unified Committee on Afro-American Contributions of St. Mary's County announces at the Juneteenth celebration at Freedom Park the building of a new "nationally recognized monument" for U.S. Colored Troops to be completed in September 2010 with the assistance of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Sgt. James H. Harris Camp #38, including member Duane Whitlock, right. The UCAC is collecting donations for the monument.
