Retired U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Clive Bailey, retired firefighter Tony Exline, paramedic Bridget Higgs and cadet Courtney Thompson responded immediately, performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and using the school's defibrillator to aid Morgan, who was stabilized and transported to Civista Medical Center and then flown to Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.

Receiving the American Legion Scholastic Excellence Award was cadet Lt. Cmdr. Jake Medina.
For the first time in its 16-year history, La Plata NJROTC was recognized as one of Maryland and Virginia's premier NJROTC units, earning the Distinguished Unit Award with academic honors.

Teagan Bailey, according to a press release.
