(Breaking news) Gas leak closes road

A section of Chancellor's Run Road in Great Mills was closed Monday when a gas leak was detected. The road was closed from Fire Department Lane to Route 235 and traffic was being diverted to Route 235 via Buck Hewitt Road.

A mid-day statement from the St. Mary's County government predicted the road would be closed for another two to three hours.

The cause of the gas leak was not known and Washington Gas was on the scene.

No evacuation order was issued; the Maryland State Highway Administration, the sheriff's office and the county's department of public safety were coordinating the situation.
