Breast cancer affects women of all ages. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, according to a press release from Sisters at Heart, a breast cancer support group that meets at the Richard R. Clark Senior Center in La Plata.
Four La Plata women who felt fortunate that they have not had cancer, but whose lives have been touched by friends and family members who have, wanted to support the awareness efforts made by Sisters at Heart.
Ann Maggi, Pat McConkey, Diane Kenney and Linda Rayner recently organized a millinery sale with profits going to Sisters at Heart.
Rayner donated a variety of hats, while others donated baked goods and jewelry.
The event generated $260 for Sisters at Heart.
The funds were given to the group's coordinator, Roberta Kieliger, during the annual Sisters at Heart Pink Ribbon Tea at the Prospect Hill Tea Room in La Plata.
Sisters at Heart Fund is a component fund of the Community Foundation of Charles County, a 501 (c) (3) public charity. The donated funds will be used to promote breast cancer awareness in the county.
