A Washington, D.C., man was arrested in Nanjemoy on Thursday and charged with the first-degree murder of a Suitland infant last fall; Prince George's County police said they are continuing to look for anyone else who might have been involved in the shooting.
Karon Clifton Wilson, 21, of the 3200 block of Warder Street in the District was arrested without incident and was taken to the Prince George's County jail where he was held without bond, said Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a spokesman for the Prince George's County Police Department.
Wilson has been charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of first-degree assault, three counts of second-degree assault and three counts of reckless endangerment, according to online court records for Prince George's County District Court. He was arrested after police received tips from the community, said Sgt. Michelle Reedy, a county police spokeswoman.
Shortly before 9 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008, Prince George's County police went to the 2600 block of Shadyside Avenue in Suitland after someone reported a shooting.
Officers found 8-month-old Anthony Savoy III dead in his car seat after being shot once in the upper body inside a minivan.
The infant's father, Anthony Maurice Savoy II, 22, was standing near the minivan. He was also shot in the upper body and has since recovered. Police said they could not confirm the relationship between Savoy and Wilson.
Police believe the shooter was trying to hit the baby's 22-year-old mother, who was in the apartment complex where the family lives, and was unharmed, police said.
No phone number was listed for Savoy at his Suitland address.
No attorney had been listed for Wilson with the District Court on Friday.
Online court records show Wilson's preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. Aug. 8.
