On May 3, Tap’s Community Brotherhood hosted another May Madness Basketball Tournament. In its second year, the number of teams participating in May Madness Tournament has nearly doubled. TCB would like to thank the players, sponsors and volunteers for making this year’s tournament a success.
Congratulations to all the winners who survived the grueling day of double-elimination play and came out on top of their divisions. For the middle school division, Jaguars Finest took home the first-place prize. In the junior varsity division, representatives from Leonardtown High School, LHS Elite, were champions. The Procrastinators proved to be too much for the competition, dominating the adult division for the second year in a row. New to 2008, the co-ed adult division was reigned by Kevin and the Crew.
Not only was there great action on the courts, there was also a chance for the TCB to live up to its slogan ‘‘community growth through brotherhood.” Parents and fans were invited to watch their favorite teams and enjoy the music, food, raffles and contests. The tournament was organized by Executive Director Kaci Kepferle and run by more than 60 volunteers. TCB takes great pride in creating this event as a way for community members to come together for a day of fun for young and old.
The May Madness Tournament would not be possible without the support of countless donations from friends and family as well as sponsorships and partnerships with local businesses and organizations. Sponsors for the May Madness Tournament include Sanofi Pasteur, Chesapeake Technology International, Blue Wind Gourmet, AIRtec, Stimuli Designs, Booz Allen Hamilton, J.F. Taylor Inc. and Barefoot Graphics.
TCB has two more events lined up for 2008. In August it will hold a back-to-school picnic at Nicolet Park. Join in for some food, good times and school supplies. Then, in October TCB will be holding another wine tasting and auction at the Blue Wind Gourmet. Don’t miss out on these great opportunities to connect with the community.
Proceeds from the May Madness Tournament and other TCB events are donated to local and national nonprofit organizations that impact community youth through sports, arts, leadership, mentor or counseling programs.
