One driver has been killed and a sheriff's deputy has been flown to a shock trauma unit in Baltimore following a collision at Apple Way and Route 4 in Dunkirk at 10:47 a.m.
According to Calvert County Sheriff Mike Evans, Deputy Wayne Wells of the Calvert County Sheriff's Office was responding to a domestic call when a car pulled into his path. No other vehicles were involved, according to Evans.
"At this time, he appears to be in good condition," Evans said of Wells.
There were no other passengers in either car. The name and gender of the person killed has not yet been released.
"He was speeding, but he was speeding legally," Evans said of Wells, who he believed was wearing his seatbelt at the time of impact. The crash caused the other car to catch on fire and totaled both vehicles. Evans said he was unsure of the make and model of the other car involved nor did he know if the person who was killed was speeding.
