The St. Mary's County License Beverage Association, comprised of local merchants that hold alcohol beverage licenses, recently endorsed a proposal to cap the number of available licenses for liquor stores, based on the county's population.
Our goal is to ensure that we can maintain a sense of balance between serving the community without having any one area congested with liquor stores. Our proposal is similar to regulations already in force in nine other Maryland counties.
It is important that the community, the beverage industry and the St. Mary's County Alcohol Beverage Board, work cooperatively to maintain the proper development of the county's beverage industry as our community grows.
