Archbishop Neale School in La Plata will hold a reception for its new principal, Anne Hedian.
The reception will be held at 7:30 p.m. Aug.13 in the school cafeteria.
"Since 1927 parents have entrusted their children to ANS because they are assured of an excellent archdiocesan based academic curriculum that encompasses our faith and values and is delivered in a safe, caring environment. Mrs. Hedian's background and experience have prepared her well to lead the school in continuing its tradition of excellence," said the Rev. Ron Potts, school administrator, in a press release.
Hedian holds a bachelor of arts degree in secondary education from the University of Maryland, College Park and a master's in education in Catholic school leadership from Marymount University in Arlington, Va.
She has 15 years of Catholic school teaching experience in the Archdiocese of Washington, five in elementary schools and 10 at Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg.
While a teacher at Seton, she was also the computer technology department chair and instructional technology coordinator.
Hedian is active with the Girl Scouts and directed a Girl Scout summer day camp, Camp Tuckerman, for 12 years. She is a Girl Scout trainer.
She is a member of St. Ambrose parish in Cheverly where she is chairwoman of the parish pastoral council, serves as a minister of Holy Communion and is involved in promoting adult faith formation.
"As a product of Catholic schools myself, I am honored to be joining the community of Archbishop Neale School as principal," Hedian said in the release. "The staff, families and teachers at ANS whom I have met thus far have impressed me with their dedication to the school and its mission. I look forward to a productive and blessed school year."
