Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008

The scheduled Aug. 25 sentence hearing of Christopher Whisman, 22, of Broomes Island, who was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the stabbing death of Rodney Barry Gray Jr., 20, of St. Leonard will be rescheduled.

Whisman’s attorney, Attorney Robert Bonsib of Greenbelt, requested more time to review the pre-sentence investigation which was completed late last week, said Assistant State’s Attorney Francis Longwell, who prosecuted the case.

Whisman was also found guilty by a jury on June 4 of first-degree assault and carrying a dangerous weapon with the intent of bodily injury, but acquitted on the hefty charge of first-degree murder in the Sept. 25, 2007, incident.

During an altercation in the backseat of a vehicle parked at the end of a driveway off Ball Road, Whisman stabbed Gray with a small knife which that Gray’s heart and he died from the injury, according to testimony at the trial.

Michael Credeur, 19, of Chesapeake Beach, who pleaded guilty to making false statements to police during the investigation of Gray’s death, was indicted on Aug. 18 of second-degree assault and conspiracy to commit robbery from a July 12 incident and a no bond warrant was issued by Judge Marjorie Clagett, according to court records.
