Campers at the Greenwell fishing camp held the week of June 29 at Greenwell State Park in Hollywood voted Alec Vanderborgt as "Fishing Buddy of the Week." The award is given to the camper who was the most helpful in assisting others in achieving fishing skills.
This was the first of two fishing camps held at Greenwell State Park this summer. Camp activities included identifying common fish of the Chesapeake Bay, tying knots, casting skills, fishing and crabbing. Campers also received a boat safety brief from the U.S. Coast Guard and fished from boats provided by members of the Coastal Conservation Association, the Maryland Saltwater Sportsmen's Association and the Maryland Conservation Corps. These organizations also provided volunteers and financial support to make the camp a memorable experience. Ken Russ Hallauer and Ken Fugate of St. Mary's County also provided financial support for camp operations.
The Greenwell Foundation supports several camps throughout the year including horseback riding, kayaking, day camp and now a fishing camp. To learn more or become a volunteer or sponsor, visit www.greenwellfoundation.org.
