Schools to host events to commemorate 9/11
Great Mills High School will be honoring the heroes and loved ones who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. Each St. Mary's public high school will be hosting an "11 Laps to Remember" walk at the school track; the community is invited to participate. The Great Mills event will be on Friday, Sept. 11, at 4 p.m. Cost is $5; all proceeds go to local volunteer fire and rescue squads.
Store to host supply drive
Old Navy store in the First Colony South Shopping Center is hosting a school supply drive Sept. 14 through 20, during regular store hours to support St. Mary's public school students. All customers donating two or more items during the school supply drive will receive a 10 percent discount off their Old Navy purchase. Needed supplies include high school backpacks, notebook paper, agenda books, 3- or 5-subject wide-rule spiral notebook, USB sticks and other items. College fair set for Sept. 22
St. Mary's public schools, in collaboration with Calvert public schools, St. Mary's Ryken High School, the College of Southern Maryland, and the St. Mary's County Library, will host the Southern Maryland College Fair on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Hollywood firehouse. The first session is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the second session is 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. Approximately 100 colleges and universities will be represented.
