Ryan’s Dream Foundation raised $10,000 for the Burnett-Calvert Hospice House playroom at its annual Ryan O’Steen Memorial Golf Tournament held last October at Twin Shields Golf Club in Dunkirk. The event is held in memory of Ryan O’Steen, who died in 2001 at the age of 17 from a rare genetic disorder. The golf tournament, organized by Ryan’s family, previously funded a wheelchair accessible playground at the Calvert Country School. After completion of the playground, Ryan’s family looked for a way to continue to honor the importance of play in Ryan’s life. Calvert Hospice supported Ryan and his family in the difficult months before he died. The family channeled its fundraising efforts to a children’s playroom, to be named ‘‘Ryan’s Playroom,” in the Hospice House currently under construction on Sixes road in Prince Frederick. Join others for a day of golfing, food and fun and help continue making ‘‘Ryan’s Dream” come true at the sixth Annual Ryan O’Steen Memorial Golf Tournament. The event will be held Oct. 24 at Twin Shields Golf Club in Dunkirk beginning at 8:30 a.m. For more information, contact Jennifer O’Malley, tournament chairperson, at 301-717-3516, or e-mail Jennifer@ryansdream.org.
