The parent involvement program, ‘‘Tellin Stories,” implemented by Lexington Park Elementary School last school year, is featured in a book produced by the National Network of Partnership Schools and Johns Hopkins University highlighting the promising partnership practices of 2008.

‘‘Tellin Stories” was organized by Karyn Timmons, a Lexington Park parent liaison, and brought together a diverse group of parents who spent an hour or two together each month to share stories of their heritage, their lives, and their hopes for their family’s future.

Leonardtown Middle School’s Keys to Successful Partnerships program is also featured in the book. Members of Leonardtown Middle’s Action Team for Partnership in conjunction with the Parent Teacher Association published pamphlets that focused on partner involvement in schools and distributed the pamphlets to their parents and on the school’s Web site.

The pamphlets provided practical tips on parenting, communicating, and learning at home, to help parents connect with their children and the school.
