Ballet recalls witch legend

St. Mary’s County’s very own witch, Moll Dyer, will be honored in dance as the St. Mary’s Ballet revives its ballet, ‘‘Legend of the Witch, Moll Dyer.” Performances are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. at the College of Southern Maryland. Advance tickets are $15; tickets at the door are $20. Tickets are available at Nanbo’s Guitar Emporium in the Wildewood Shopping Center. For more information call 301-884-8601. St. Mary’s Ballet performances are funded in part by grants from the St. Mary’s County Arts Council awarded through the State of Maryland from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Artists Patti Runco, Joan Lawrence, Mickey Kunkle and Nadine Chicoine are all longtime members of the North End Gallery in Leonardtown, having all joined at the same time several years ago.

The North End Gallery enjoyed a huge 20th-Anniversary Celebration on the Leonardtown square last month. These four artists have had so much fun working together through the years, that they have now combined their talents in yet another show which will run through Oct. 29 at the gallery. Gallery hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. For more information visit www.northendgallery.org. The Parlett family invites the public to the 9th Annual Southern Maryland Farm-Life Festival to be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Proceeds will be donated to St. Mary’s County’s Christmas in April program.

The Parlett farm is located in Charlotte Hall. John K. Parlett Sr. (1937-2005) and his wife, Kitty, assembled one of the finest collections of artifacts from rural American in the country. Mr. Parlett’s legacy lives on in the exhibits and displays he created at the John K. Parlett Farm-Life Museum of Southern Maryland. The museum consists of over 60,000 square feet of indoor historical exhibits. Admission is $7 for adults; $3 for students. (Children younger than 6 are admitted free of charge).

A new event his year will be an auction scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. Additional features and exhibits include the general store, the trades building, the farm life building, the tobacco museum, the farm history building, the 1900 hardware store, an antique truck exhibit, an antique and craft market, authentic demonstrations, an antique tractor and gas engine show, a Maryland State Police helicopter display and a wide variety of food vendors, plus a petting zoo and hay rides.
