St. Mary's College of Maryland trustees announced Wednesday that they will continue the search for the next college president.
Four finalists visited the campus last month — Katherine Conway-Turner, James Bacchus, MaryAnn Baenninger and Joseph Bruno. The trustees met on Oct. 3 for an extended closed session and again by teleconference on Oct. 19. They were unable to reach a consensus, which led at least one candidate to withdraw from the process, according to a press release.
According to the release, the trustees will take steps to move forward in the presidential process.
Molly Mahoney, trustee secretary and chair of the search committee, said that the process for the new search has yet to be ironed out by the trustees but will be soon. She said no timeline has yet been established for the new search.
Larry Vote, provost and acting president of the college, will continue to serve as president until an appointment is made.
"We want to get the best person possible for the position at the soonest possible time," Vote said Wednesday.
The four finalists had been narrowed from more than 100 applicants over the last several months by a search committee made up of trustees as well as faculty and student representatives.
