STEM sixth-graders plan trip to space camp

Students of the sixth-grade STEM Academy (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) at Spring Ridge Middle School will be attending Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala., from Jan. 31 to Feb. 5, 2010. The class is seeking donations to help lower the expense of transportation and camp fees. The projected cost is $43,000 ($900 per student).

Anyone who would like to sponsor a student can e-mail teacher Nathan Swick at nlswick@smcps.org for more information.

The class has asked that donations be received by Nov. 23. Blazer Construction ($1,000), JF Taylor ($2,000), Research and Engineering Development ($100) and Patuxent Partnership ($250) have already offered support.

Chopticon to present ‘Twelve Angry Jurors'

Chopticon High School's Bravehouse Productions will present Reginald Rose's drama "Twelve Angry Jurors" on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the production are $4 for students and $6 for adults. All performances will be held in the auditorium. Call 301-475-0215.

Family workshop slated

St. Mary's public schools' Partners for Success Resource Center for Families and Schools is offering a workshop for families of children receiving special education services. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the Board of Education Meeting Room located at 23160 Moakley St. in Leonardtown.
