Are you ready for some semi-pro football?

Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007

We are excited and proud to announce the first semi-professional football team to come to Charles County.

We held tryouts on four separate Saturdays and a total of 120 worthy players came out to try out for the team. The Diamond Football League, with whom we are affiliated, in its ninth season, has informed us that this is unprecedented.

We only had 40 slots for 120 players and it was very difficult to choose from all of that talent but in a grueling Monday night meeting the coaching staff selected the 2007 Charles County Lions Semi-Pro Football Team.

Our first team meeting was held Oct. 26, and we are excited to begin practice. Our games will begin in January with exhibition games in Ocean City where NFL scouts will be observing our players. Last year, 38 Diamond Football League players were invited to training camps in the NFL. No wonder these guys are excited.

Chaney Enterprises has donated two baseball fields that we have been working on to turn into our home football field and we have received help in the form of money, equipment and labor from Phoenix Fire Protection Inc. and Barnes and Sons Concrete. Modell’s wants to have a Charles County Lions night where the players can come out in their jerseys and give autographs. This can be really big, people.

We have already incorporated, and we are a 501c3 nonprofit corporation. As you can well imagine, the cost for the startup of this team is quite substantial. We won’t be able to do this without the help of individuals and businesses in Charles County.

Anything you can do to help, whether it is in the form of services, money or donated equipment will be greatly appreciated. Some of our most pressing needs at this time are lights for practicing on our home field, field preparation, down markers and chains, yard markers, uniforms, practice equipment (dummies etc.), portable toilets for home games, some form of shelter for storage, player benches, bleachers, water coolers and bottles, footballs for games and practices, first aid kits and athletic tape, transportation to away games and a scoreboard. We can’t do it without you.

We will recognize you or your business every chance we get for any and all help we receive.

We will have a sponsor board at our home field where you will be recognized 24⁄7 for your support.

We can’t thank you enough for just taking the time to read this letter. If you wish to be a part of this or have any questions please contact me at 301-392-0563 or 240-299-7760.
