Charles County is building an addition to its courthouse in La Plata. Actually, to call it an addition is absurd, since it is bigger than the existing courthouse that has already had an addition that more than doubled its original size.
I've been waiting patiently to find out why this recent addition is necessary and what all and who all it will contain, as well has how much the entire project, including the new road and parking lot construction, is going to cost and where the money is coming from.
But I haven't heard or read anything on the subject. If it has been published or announced anywhere, I must have missed it. County government expansion, both in facilities and in people, seems to go on with no real explanation to people whose taxes pay for it all.
The people's only defense against this type of neglect is our vote.
We should exercise it with more effectiveness by voting against all current office holders and keep doing that until we get people in office who recognize that they are working for us and not the other way around.
