The Waldorf man facing criminal charges in the Accokeek street racing crash that left eight dead pleaded not guilty Thursday morning to a Charles County traffic citation.
A police officer ticketed Tavon Jamarr Taylor, 18, on April 19, 2007, charging him with unsafely passing another car on the right, according to court records. The officer didn't show up for Taylor's Thursday hearing in Charles County court, and a judge dropped the charges.
Taylor declined to comment as he was exiting the courtroom.
Taylor was driving a 1994 Mercury when the officer stopped him at the intersection of Route 224 and 225 in La Plata, court records show. He allegedly drove a Mercury when racing Darren Jamar Bullock, 21, of Waldorf on Feb. 16. Bullock reportedly drove his car into a crowd of people gathered to watch another street race on Indian Head Highway. Eight people died and another eight were injured in the incident.
Taylor and Bullock have been charged with eight counts of vehicular manslaughter, reckless driving and participating in an illegal street race in the February crash.
