One more game left

Athlete diary

Friday, Nov. 6, 2009

Every game, we try to devote ourselves to the entire 48 minutes of football.

During the game against North Point [last Friday] we only put in 36 minutes. North Point scored the majority of its points in the fourth quarter, 19 to be exact.

Despite that quarter, our defense played well and didn't allow them to score in two of the other quarters. I am not sure if it's fact, but I think we are the only team to have a safety against North Point this year. It's always good to look at the positive side of things.

However, with that loss, we are out of the running for the playoffs. But, as [head coach Bill Griffith] said in practice, that does not mean our season is over with. We have one more big game against Huntingtown.

Finishing the season 6-4 would be a lot better than finishing 5-5. On top of that, this could possibly be the last game of football that some of the seniors play. So, we definitely have to leave it all on the field this Friday.

Since our season is coming to a close, I want to challenge the upcoming Great Mills varsity players.

We changed the image of Great Mills football. Now it's up to you all next year to step up and work hard to make sure that image remains positive.

It starts in the classroom. You must get the grades so you can play, but don't settle for the minimum, aim higher. If you work hard in the classroom, it will show through your hard work on the field.

Before I get started talking too much about next year and all, we still have one more game play.
