Farmers estate planning workshop planned

The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission will host a free advanced estate planning workshop 6 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative auditorium at 15035 Burnt Store Road in Hughesville.
The program is the second in a series of four workshops specifically designed to benefit the region's agricultural and farm business community, according to a release.
The workshop will stress the importance of estate planning to protect the family farm and financial assets from excessive taxation.
Topics include selling or keeping the farm business in the family, transferring assets within the family, preparing the family for the transfer of assets including business structures, protecting and growing money, philanthropy and what makes an effective financial team.
Wealth Management Partners and Edward Pennfield, an attorney from Bank of New York Mellon, will make presentations at the workshop.
