La Plata 3, Largo 0
The fourth-seeded Warriors (7-4-2 overall) earned the shutout over fifth-seeded Largo from Prince George's County in the 3A South region quarterfinals on Tuesday night.
With the win, La Plata advances to the regional semifinals at 6 tonight to face top-seeded Northern in a rematch from last year's regional final in which La Plata knocked the Patriots out of the postseason to earn a berth to the state semifinals.
La Plata's Patrick Steger led all scorers with two goals on the night, while teammate Greg Fitch balanced out the scoring with one.
"Our defense came up big, helping [goalie] Jack Mister to his sixth shutout," La Plata head coach Dennis Burns said. "Largo really had some hard working players. The La Plata-Northern matchup is always going to be a highly intense game. They are a great team, so we will have to be at our best Friday night to beat them. We are looking forward to the challenge."
Hammond 2, McDonough 0
After two goals in the first 20 minutes, fourth-seeded Hammond was able to hold on and blank the fifth-seeded Rams (4-12) on Tuesday night in a 2A South regional quarterfinal contest.
"Overall the season was full of ups and downs," McDonough head coach Megan McKinney said. "There were a couple of games that we were more than capable of winning. However, there were a couple of games that they surprised me and themselves. We were happy to advance past the first round of the playoffs."
McKinney mentioned that freshman Adonis Vasquez was incredible in playing different positions for the team and senior captain Nick Delacruz made big defensive plays.

Arundel 2, North Point 0
The fifth-seeded Eagles (10-4) took on fourth-seeded Arundel on Tuesday night in the Class 4A East region quarterfinals. After a scoreless first half, the hosts would tally two second-half goals by Kahra and Caprice Kelty en route to the victory.
"We played a tough first half, but we just couldn't put it together in the second half," North Point head coach Doug DeCook said. "We had a couple stances, but Arundel kept the game in the middle of field and started to create more chances at the net than we did."
DeCook pointed out that senior sweeper Amy Dempsey played very well, along with defenders Jazmyn White and Kristina Milman. Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Major finished with 13 saves in the losing effort.
