Man charged with sex abuse of minor

A man who lived in Calvert County for eight years has been charged with a dozen counts of child abuse and six counts of sex abuse to a minor after the victim told police about the abuse, which allegedly occurred in Calvert from 1999 through 2004.
Currently a resident of California, Felix Alejandro Pinto Salinas, 54, was indicted on Oct. 20 for "sexual abuse that started when [the victim] was 4 years old and ended when he was 16 years old," court records state.
The victim, now 17 and living in New Jersey, told a Calvert County Sheriff's Office detective in August of several places that Salinas drove him in a van where Salinas performed sexual acts, according to charging documents. The locations where the alleged abuse occurred were in both in Calvert and St. Mary's counties, with charging documents mentioning a community center and restaurant parking lots as well as in the defendant's home. The victim stated that he was taken to Walmart at times to buy Pokemon cards after the alleged abuse occurred, charging documents state.
The victim was also interviewed by a social worker from New Jersey Social Services in connection with the abuse, court records state.
Salinas, who is currently being held at the Calvert County Detention Center, was charged with numerous counts in relation to specific dates and various sexual acts.
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Jan. 5, 2009, and the trial date is currently scheduled for March 3, 2009.
